Hurrah! It’s nearly time to pack for your hot holiday booked months ago when the skies were grey and full of rain. You know which bikinis and strappy dresses you’re taking but what about your summer sun hair care kit? It’s really important to maintain your good-girl hair extension care regime when on hols to keep your extensions safe come heat, humidity, sand and sea.
Remember extensions should be fitted at least two weeks before going on holiday to give you time to get used to your new routine. And although some sun damage, product build-up and general weathering can happen while on holiday – don’t be complacent. The best way to keep your holiday hair happy is to keep it well protected and well hydrated. And that doesn’t mean frequently dunking it in the pool or sea water!
To be honest, swimming in either a pool or the sea isn’t a great idea. Chlorine or chemicals in a swimming pool or salty sea water can have an undesirable effect on your extension bonds, links or weft tapes, as well as make your hair extensions dry, tangled or discoloured.
So, although it’s not recommended to regularly swim, if the temptation’s just too irresistible, do your utmost to keep your hair out of the water by securely tying it up in a high bun or plait. But don’t use coarse or uncovered elastic bands as these may cause matting. If your hair does gets wet, shampoo and condition using your special Racoon-Xtend products asap.
Knowing the sun can leave your own hair and extensions dry, rehydrate repeatedly by applying Racoon-Xtend leave-in Everyday Conditioner throughout the day and use X-tend Thermal Defense which offers some protection against UV rays.
And holiday over (sorry, you’ve not even left home yet!) if your hair feels like it’s suffered from too much sun exposure, treat yourself to a Racoon-Xtend Detox Shampoo and Conditioning Hair Mask to revitalise your hair. Extensions are a glorious investment so treat them respectfully with a thorough hair care routine.
